Castor has closed a new deal with the Institute of Human Activities, that has recently opened a Museum in Lusanga, Democratic Republic of Congo. Their new high-speed Ku-band VSAT internet will help them with their communication to the headquarter in the Netherlands. Also, the live local premiere of the film ‘White Cube’ was realized thanks to our remote internet services. To fulfill the connectivity needs of Human Activities, we installed a 1.2m Ku band antenna on TV12V Africa, using the latest iDirect modem from the iQ series.
Gentrification project in Lusanga, Democratic Republic of Congo
The museum is situated in the remote Lusanga in DRC, at an old Unilever plantation site. This unlikely setting composes a unique gentrification project. The Congolese labor for Unilever has financed Western museums, amongst other things. In order to mend this and to regain them their economical position, the Dutch invested: the museum was designed by OMA, the firm owned by famous Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. Led by artist Renzo Martens, Congolese former plantation workers are trained as artists to exhibit in the Museum in order to buy back their land with the resulting revenue.
Film ‘White Cube’ premiered with help of Castor internet
The Museum in Lusanga is referred to in the adjoined documentary film as ‘White Cube’, pointing out the square, white building. With this feature, project leader Renzo Martens wanted to attract attention to this unique project. ‘White Cube’ premiered at the IDFA and simultaneously was shown at the Museum itself on November 21st, 2020. This broadcast was possible thanks to Castor Networks. If you are interested, the trailer of 'White Cube' be viewed here.
